Alphabet Drills – Drill A (Version 1)

I’ve started working through the book Alphabet Drills. The drills are all based on the letters of the alphabet. So here is letter A (and there are a lot of drills based on this letter, lol!). This is the first version, which at a glance looks simple enough.

A Drill 1a

No big deal, right? All on one arm, straightforward pivot. Well yes, and no. First off I wanted to work some distance at  2-3, I didn’t want to run right up to 3 and be out of position for 4. The next difficulty was getting a tight turn between 3 & 4. There was a potential for the dogs to sail back over 1, but keeping my feet facing towards 5 prevented that.

On the next attempt I changed to a rear cross from 2-3. This made Sparrow turn really wide between 3&4.

If I had a choice, I would go for the pivot turn between 2,3 &4. I would only rear cross if I had no other option and was out of position.
